Misconceptions

Here are some common misconceptions about the Imm5707 form:

  • Only immediate family members need to be listed. Many believe that only spouses and children should be included. However, the form requires information about all family members, including parents and any other dependents.
  • It is acceptable to leave sections blank. Some think they can skip sections that don’t apply to them. In reality, you should write "Not applicable" or "N/A" for any sections that do not pertain to you.
  • Children under 18 do not need to be listed. A common error is assuming that only children over 18 should be included. All children, regardless of age, must be listed on the form.
  • Only accompanying family members need to be declared. People often think they only need to mention family members traveling with them. The form requires information on all family members, even if they are not accompanying you to Canada.
  • The form is optional for Canadian citizens. Some individuals mistakenly believe that Canadian citizens do not need to fill out the form. However, it is still required for family information, regardless of citizenship status.
  • It can be signed at any time. Many assume they can sign the form whenever they want. Signing must occur after filling out all sections to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Providing incorrect information is harmless. Some think that minor inaccuracies won't matter. Providing false information can lead to delays or denials in the application process.
  • Only one form is needed for the entire family. A misconception exists that one form suffices for all family members. Each individual over 18 must complete their own form.
  • There are no consequences for not declaring all family members. Some believe they can omit family members without issue. This can lead to serious consequences, including application rejection or future immigration problems.
